Brightwaters New York is
in the township of Islip located in Central Suffolk County.
It
was incorporated legally as a village November 30, 1916,
by
then Islip Town Clerk Charles Suydam, Jr. The village looks
today much as it did at the turn of the century accept, of
course, there are a few more houses, and a few more people.
Brightwaters has its own rules for zoning,
police, highways, etc.
Brightwaters, in
1982,
celebrated its 75 th year anniversary, which included a
lively parade held in the village of Brightwaters. The
1982 program stated: "Our 75th anniversary-- Recreation:
Everything but mountain climbing. This tells the
story of the wonderful recreation feature of
Brightwaters.
Nowhere on
Earth is there opportunity for greater variety of outdoor
sports and pleasures than in this beautiful
Arcadia
of spring lakes, pine woods and sea shore."
Brightwaters is
known for a lot of things but, because of its great location
on the Great South Bay, real estate is very expensive. A
house that needs TLC is over 400,000.00, and there are
houses well over 1,000,000.00. Brightwaters
contains Wohseepee Park, and
the Brightwaters Canal. Also there are four lakes next to
Montauk Highway. Brightwaters has a strong sense of
community, with very distinguished residents past and
present such as
Hon. Joseph McNulty - Mayor of this village
since 1999,
Former US Representative and future Senate-hopeful Rick
Lazio,
John
Cochrane, NY State Assemblyman, Suffolk County Treasurer and
many, many more.
Brightwaters is also
easily accessible to NYC, by way of the Long Island Railroad
Station. It runs from Montauk Point to NYC on it’s south
shore line.
